Vision, Mission, and Values of ACNPE

Vision

A future in which clinical nutrition is fully integrated into healthcare through high-quality accredited education and evidence-informed, personalized nutrition care, improving the health and well-being of individuals and communities.

Mission

The Accreditation Council for Nutrition Professional Education (ACNPE) promotes educational quality through the development, application, and continuous improvement of rigorous accreditation standards for graduate clinical nutrition degree programs offered by institutionally accredited colleges and universities in the United States and supervised practice experience programs.

Through an independent, voluntary, transparent, and peer-review accreditation process, ACNPE evaluates programs to determine compliance with its accreditation standards.

Values

In fulfilling its mission, ACNPE is guided by the following principles:

1. Public Interest and Educational Quality
ACNPE conducts all accreditation activities in a manner that protects students, serves the public interest, and promotes confidence in the quality, integrity, and continuous improvement of graduate clinical nutrition education.

2. Integrity, Independence, and Evidence-Based Decision-Making
ACNPE develops accreditation standards and makes accreditation decisions independently, objectively, and free from conflicts of interest or undue influence. Accreditation standards are informed by scientific evidence, educational research, evolving professional practice, and meaningful input from relevant communities of interest.

3. Fairness, Transparency, and Due Process
ACNPE administers accreditation through a fair, consistent, transparent, and voluntary peer-review process that respects due process, institutional mission, academic freedom, and diverse educational models while ensuring compliance with established standards of educational quality.

4. Collaboration and Professional Leadership
ACNPE values meaningful collaboration with educators, practitioners, employers, students, graduates, credentialing organizations, professional organizations, and other stakeholders in advancing educational quality while preserving the Council's independent authority for accreditation decisions.

5. Organizational Excellence and Accountability
ACNPE is committed to responsible stewardship, continuous organizational improvement, and the ongoing development of its directors, evaluators, committee members, volunteers, consultants, and staff.
